Weigela is a genus of about 12 species of deciduous shrubs from East Asia. They are grown for their showy spring flowers. The genus name Weigela honors Christian Ehrenfried Weigel (1748-1831), German professor at the University of Geifswald. ‘Minuet’ is a dense, rounded, deciduous weigela that is noted for its dwarf size, purple tinged foliage and purplish red flowers with yellow throats. It typically grows to only 3’ tall and spreads to 3-4’ wide. The funnel-shaped flowers bloom profusely in spring, with a sparse and scattered repeat bloom sometimes occurring in mid to late summer. Flowers are slightly fragrant. Purple-tinged, elliptic to obovate leaves retain good color throughout the growing season. Insignificant fall color
Note: The plant is shipped in its pot, firmly secured with several layers of clear tape, thereby avoiding any shuffling and moving during transit. The plant reaches you with minimal damage- very safe and secure. We have been shipping plants like this for several years (plant are sometimes shipped in smaller pots for safety and ease of shipping). Most plants go dormant in fall and winter and will lose most of their leaves – looking dead and dry – very normal. They will flush out in spring. We cannot send ship some plants and some sizes to California due to restrictions placed by department of agriculture.
